Gracie Handbag

I been working on a Gracie Handbag. It is a little larger than I am use to carring but maybe I will like it. It was fun making it. I had never made handles that way before.

Also been quilting some but took time off this weekend for my in-laws 55th Wedding Anniversary.

African Print Teachers Pet

Martha made this African Print Teachers Pet. I just finished quilting it. Haven't had time last couple of weeks to do much quilting. Have been having problems with thread breakage. Finally figured out I needed a smaller needle cause I was using a finer thread and also set tension on smaller number. It sure can get frustrating to have thread break every 6 inches.

Farm & Field Day

We had such good time at Farm & Fied Day, held Friday, June 20, 2008. It was held at Blaine Community Park, Blaine, Ky, which is located beside The Last Dollar Holler Farm owned by Butch & Debbie Smith.

    Displays & Exhibits included:
  • Goat Milking Demonstration
  • Tree ID Course with Kentucky Division of Forestry
  • Horse Shoeing
  • Bee and Hive Core
  • Master Gardeners
  • Farmer's Market
  • Twining of Rugs
  • Chair Weaving
  • Twilling Embroidery
  • Quilting Demonstrations
  • Sun Safety
  • Lung Cancer Awareness
  • Health Screenings By Three Rivers Medical Center
  • Dessert Judging Contest along with Dinner at 6:00pm

The weather was perfect. I displayed quilts and passed out pamplets on Basic Quilting, Applique, Binding, etc. My husband helped me set things up. They had post set for volleyball net and he streched a rope for us to hang the quilts. I took some quilts that I had quilted for some of the girls and also some tops I have to quilt and some of my quilts. We were about 1500 feet from Route 32 and everyone that came in said it looked like a post card picture. The wind blew and it reminded me of the times when my grandmother would hang clothes on the line and the wind would blow them dry. Everyone seemed to have a great time.

Ernistine demonstrated twilling, which is an embrodery stitch. Alma and Ernie also taught chair webbing. Dianne Gauze taught rug twinning.

Update

Just want to update everyone about what I been doing. Don't know how I can stay so busy and not have time to blog. Last week a friend came to visit from Lavelette, WV and we picked Martha up and went to a yard sale. Found advertisement in newspaper about it and they said they had quilting things, but we never dreamed they had so much. A couple more of our friends went also. We all came away with lots of material. This lady could no longer stay by herself and her sister was selling her things. Here is a picture of my stash.

I also got a baby quilt that the sister had pieced and it even has the backing with it. It isn't 100% cotton but I think it will be pretty when finished quilting.

Mystery Quilt

Went to Quilt Guild today and we finished putting together the Mystery Quilt Wall Hanging. I finished my blocks and brought it home to lay it on the bed and put it together. I still need to add the spots on the bugs backs and the door to the birdhouse. I might embroidery a bird somewhere. I think I will add more borders to it and make a lap size. We had a good time today. It is good to get together with the girls to quilt, talk and eat. We are blessed to have a very good teacher. She, along with her mom, work very hard to plan these things. They always make two of these. Sandy made the wallhanging and her mom, Virginia had her blocks together in rows to show everyone how they went together. I am sure they don't do all this in one evening.
