Teacher's Pet

Just off the frame, "Teacher's Pet" Bug Quilt. This one was quilted for Martha. She made this for her granddaughter for a graduation gift. I started on this early this morning and thought I would finish it in a few hours. Well, I had a lot of thread breakages and a couple of times had to take out stitching. Also cleaned house and took a nap in between. I guess with all considered it didn't take that long after all. I also got another one in the frame and quilted a couple of lines on it. I hope to get caught up soon. Just got one queen size to do and a couple of baby quilts.

I don't think Martha nor I either one will be chosen for Master Clothing Volunteer. They were 8 of us interviewed and only one will be chosen. Martha and I didn't have one of the garments they had ask us to bring. I think we failed the test.

Crazy Quilt

Well, today I didn't get a lot accomplished. I worked some on a Crazy Quilt that I started about 2 or 3 years ago. It is taking me a long time because I got the wise idea of adding decorative stitches to each block. I sure didn't think it would take this long to finish them on a machine. I can't imagine how long it took people to do them by hand. I guess this is to show me to look at Crazy Quilts at a differently now that I know the time that is put into each one. I didn't want to get started putting a quilt in the frame today cause the repair man came to check our appliances before the warranty runs out next month. I can't believe we have already had them for a year. I made the apple dumplings from Pioneer womans site again today. They are soooo good! This time I used part sugar substitute. Last time they were really sweet for me. Tomorrow, Martha and I go for interview to become a Master Clothing Volunteer.

Scrappy Pinwheel

I hope everyone had a good holiday weekend. We had a good one. Had a Birthday/Cookout for Tyler, our grandsons 8th birthday on Sunday. Yesterday we went to In-laws for fish fry. They went to Yatesville State Park last week and caught 2 large mouth bass and a catfish. They were delicious! After fish fry we went to Blaine Park. The Lawrence County Extension is having their Farm and Field Day there June 20th. I will be doing something pertaining to quilts. We served two purposes yesterday. It was a good outing for the kids to play, plus I could see if there would be anywhere to hang quilts. I enjoy Farm and Field Day. It is a lot of work but we have around 400 each year attend and it is growing. I hope to quilt some today. Just finished the binding on the "Scrappy Pinwheel" last night.

More quilts done this week

I have been having so much fun quilting this week. Sewing machine working so good. No thread breaking, tension very good, and didn't even sew my finger this week. I finished quilting a "Roman Strip" for Sue and putting the binding on it. She had gotten a solid color for the binding and I sure didn't think it would be very pretty but it turned out really nice. I will consider a solid color some day.

Martha, a friend of mine, came up Monday and helped me to cut out and sew the blocks to one called Teachers Pet. By 1:00pm we had all the blocks sewn together. Tuesday I layed them out on a bed in the basement. This was set on a point, which I find a little harder to do. I just left them on the bed and sewed a few blocks from time to time as I was taking a break from quilting. Then I sewed the borders on last night, Thursday. Even cut the binding on a bias and rolled it on a cardboard to have ready when I get it quilted.

Finished Quilting Another One

Just finished a baby quilt for one of the ladies in the quilt guild. The backing, which is shown below, is a very soft chenille. I sure was hesitant about quilting this with that backing but it wasn't to bad to do. I started quilting it with embroidery thread but it would break after 3 inches sewn. It did that two times and I just changed to the thread I usually use on the other quilts. I had to turn the tension dial to 2. I call this quilt a miracle cause I never expected for it to quilt as easily.

Tomorrow is quilt guild and we will be finding out what the mystery quilt is. I can't wait!

Grandmother's Fan Quilted

Just finished quilting a quilt called "Grandmother's Fan". It took me 12 hours to finish this one. First half, I had problems with stitching and had to take some out, plus thread broke a lot. I now have these two ready to send to the owner on Tuesday. I am releaved to have these complete.

I also completed my blocks today for the Quilt Guild Mystery Quilt, Block 2. We had to make 3 for Block 1 and 7 for Block 2. I completed Block 1 yesterday at Quilt Guild. Kristie and I are in the same Guild. It is called Lawrence County Quilted Treasures. She brought some of her blocks she had been working on to guild for show and tell and they are absolutely beautiful! She does such good job.

Dresden Plate Quilted

Well, yesterday, I ended up taking my machine to get it serviced after sewing my finger. It kept breaking the thread and found out it had a burr on the bobbin case. I guess I pulled my finger and the needle hit the bobbin case instead of going down in the hole. I just finished the row and a half of the Dresden Plate Quilt I had on the frame at the time. I am quilting this for a friend from Versales, Ky. I have another one for her to quilt also. It is the Grandmothers Fan. I never liked a fan before until I seen the way this one is set up and it is really pretty.

Monday is Quilt Guild Meeting and we will be starting a Mystery Quilt. The last one was so much fun! We did it October 2006

Tea Party

I am in Homemakers organization at our Extension office. Last night was our Annual meeting. We had a Tea Party. Everyone that had tea pots brought theirs. Our speaker was Connie Queen. Of course I took pictures.

I had a bad day with quilting machine. I had a couple of rows to quilt and it kept breaking thread after I sewed my finger. Yes the needle went all the way thru my finger. I can't believe it wasn't even sore yesterday. I hope to get it fixed today and finish that quilt.

Hooked Already

Kristie, I am hooked already. LOL Just curious if I can add a photo to my blog today. This is a Roman Stripe quilt that I made about 3 years ago with the quilt guild and the fabric came from Guhl's at Jackson, Ohio where Martha and I went the other day.

Thank You for the Welcome

I want to Thank All that Welcomed me to blogging. I haven't had time to learn more about how to add pictures, etc. Matter of fact, I had a time figureing how to post a new blog. LOL I quilted most of the day today, got to the last couple of rows and having problem with thread breakage. I just stop and go back later when this happens. I was hoping to get it finished. I have a website where you can see some of the quilts I have quilted with my quilting machine I got in January.

My First Blog

I am new at this. Please be patient with me. I love working with computers but just learning Blogs. I am going to be quilting today. I have 5 quilts for other people to quilt. I have been going to quilt shops lately. Martha Meek and I went to Guhl's in Jackson, Ohio on Friday, May 2, 2008. They have so much fabric and it is reasonably priced, most of it is $2.19 a yard. Muslin is $1.19 a yard. Monday, May 5, we went to Shady Shack. Yesterday I worked at the Extension office. Today I have to get started on a quilt.
